Repairing a hole in your wall is easier than you think and there is usually no need to call a handyman. Even large holes can be a do-it-yourself project. Here are some tips to repairing a hole in your wall. First off, you need to do some preparation and planning. Make sure you have the right tools for the job including putty knives, sandpaper with both course and fine grit and compound. Larger jobs will require more materials and tools such as drywall, drywall nails or screws and a trowel. Make sure that the area around the patch is clean so the compound will adhere to the wall. Next, you need to determine the best method for repairing the hole and this depends on the size of the hole. For small holes that are no larger than a dime, e.g. nail and screw holes, all you need to do is patch it with putty (wall compound). Simply apply a little putty, use a scraper or putty knife to make it flush with the surrounding wall, wait for it to dry, and sand it smooth. For holes that are slightly larger, say the size of a switch plate, you’ll need to fill the hole with newspaper before applying the putty. When applying the putty make sure that you use a putty knife that is wider than the hole to ensure it becomes flush.
For medium size holes no larger than about 10 inches you need to apply a hot patch. Cut a piece of drywall the approximate size and shape of the hole and apply drywall tape to the edges to create a flap for affixing to the wall. Apply drywall compound to the entire area and make three to four applications until the area is level and smooth.
Home Renovation Insurance Step by Step
Many among the thousands of homeowners around the world see themselves living in a marvellous, restored home that was originally built a century or more in the past. While these homes are not widely available, there may still be some great opportunities to purchase an older home at a reasonable price, leaving funds available for repair and renovation. While this can be an expensive way to establish a family home, the atmosphere and pride of ownership might make it all worthwhile. In some cases, these older, restored homes have details in the woodwork, basic construction or windows, for example, which are not easily replaced if damaged or destroyed. For this reason, some of the traditional insurance companies write special policies that are a bit more expensive or decline to cover more elaborate homes altogether. Some insurance companies have, however, succeeded with plans written specifically for home renovation, both as the work is being done and as homeowner coverage on completion of the project.
There are several excellent companies that work almost exclusively with those who have historic homes or those who are contemplating the remodeling of an older home. Some of these are instruction/guidance groups that provide information and point homeowners in the right direction.

Hollywood Home Improvements
Leave it to Hollywood to make something as serious as home improvement into a laughing matter. Home improvement woes are a perfect plot for television, comedy and movies. In fact, in recent years, home improvement topics have done quite well in Hollywood and have made many people big stars. Home improvement is such an interesting topic because it is usually something complex that rarely goes off without a hitch. It can make for some humorous situations. You can think of it as a situation comedy. Lucille Ball would have fun doing a skit with wallpaper. Imagine just what she could do with the paste flying, ripping paper and the many other humorous situations that could happen. Home improvement just has what its takes to create a funny and humorous situation. Comedy teams were quite popular in the Depression and during World War II. Comedy teams like the Three Stooges and Laurel and Hardy often had audiences rolling with their humorous takes on home improvement. They would take a simple task and somehow turn it into a huge mess. Many people could relate and it was fun to laugh at their antics.
A popular television show called Home Improvement, made men everywhere start getting a little respect fort their work in the home. Tim Allen’s clumsy and accident prone character could make the average guy look like the worlds best handyman. He covered a wide range of home improvement projects on the show from tiling a bathroom to wall mount faucets and everyone ended with a laugh and usually, a little pain for Tim ‘the tool man’ Taylor.
